Third party UAC manager software endorsed by Microsoft Every user account in Windows Vista is a “standard” account by default without administrator privileges.  Normally in Vista a password is required to elevate access to the administrator level which some programs require in order to function properly, but in the business world this isn’t practical.  Most users in a work environment can’t have administrator access thus breaking some programs.  Privilege Manager manager fixes this problem and has been given Microsoft’s blessing.

Granted, UAC isn’t the best invention or security “manager” to hit an operating system but it is an improvement and until now it was almost impossible to deal with, aside from running everyone as admin and turning it off completely.

Privilege Manager allows administrators to set up only the programs that need administrator privileges to elevate automatically when required without asking the user anything.

Microsoft director of client security product management Austin Wilson said, “Microsoft recognizes that to help create a secure, auditable and compliant enterprise environment all users should be Standard Users and ideally not have administrative privileges or access to administrator passwords, “BeyondTrust Privilege Manager helps corporations that need to allow standard users to run applications that require administrative privileges on Windows Vista with UAC enabled without any prompts or input required from the user.”

We talked about Privilege Manager in the past in case you want to read more about the product.
