Microsoft issues wireless network Vista fixes

By Ruben Francia

Microsoft issues wireless network Vista fixesMicrosoft has issued a hotfix for a wireless networking flaw in Windows Vista.

The fix address very specific problems in a wireless networking environment, including the failure to obtain the correct IP address during Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) when switching on a client computer, the failure to capture the user selected Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) in a wireless profile, and the bug that occurs when using the wireless profile user interface to edit the profile.

Other problems include the failure to recognize the registered independent hardware vendor (IHV) Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol (PEAP) when trying to authenticate against an Internet Authentication Service (IAS) server, and the burden of having to re-enter user credentials every time users roam around to a different wireless access point.

Microsoft has recommended applying this hotfix only when users are severely affected by any of the above symptoms. Otherwise, Microsoft said “it is best for users to wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix”.
