Windows Home Server ships August 27 in US

Windows Home Server ships August 27 in US Microsoft has just announced that Windows Home Server will be shipping August 27 for the US only but is already selling it in other countries to system builders.  There is also limited availability in retail stores and online stores are more than happy to sell you an OEM copy early.

According to ComputerWorld, Windows Home Server was released to manufacturing just last month.  It has now been distributed to various manufacturers including the likes of HP, Gateway and others.  Those companies will be preparing systems with Windows Home Server preinstalled.

Windows Home Server is now shipping in New Zealand and Australia and will be available in the UK shortly, presumably before it ships in the US.  Prices for Windows Home Server currently range between $150 and $200.

In typical Microsoft style they have said that the August 27 date may be subject to change saying that the only thing to be officially available by that date will be technical support for system builders.  Whatever, Microsoft, I still bet that Newegg will be selling OEM copies at least by then, if not sooner.

If Windows Home Server does ship by said date that means it will ship on time which is news on the Microsoft front since they either deny dates or fail to release things on time.  Maybe this is a sign of things to come, provided it actually makes the date.
