Palm Desktop beta for Vista released

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Palm Desktop beta for Vista released Those of you with Palm based handhelds can breathe a sigh of relief, if you are running Vista that is.  Palm has released Palm Desktop Beta for its handhelds, once again enabling you to exchange files and synch it with your computer but this has come at the loss of some functionality.

The beta does not include the “quick install” feature to load files or applications onto the PDA or Smartphone.  It still allows the exchange of Palm OS applications and databases of the .prc and .pdb type.

It can not synch with VersaMail.

Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSynch 7 are included with the beta, these versions are compatible with Vista only, it is not recommended using either on Windows XP or 2000.  It can synch with Outlook 2007.

If you have a previous version of Palm Desktop installed, uninstall it before installing the beta on Windows Vista only.  Palm Desktop 6.2 should only be used with the following devices, Treo 755p , 700p, 680, 650; the Palm TX, Z22; and the Tungsten E2.

Palm’s official warning, “Please note that the use of the software is at your sole risk, and it is provided “AS IS” and without warranty of any kind.”
