PC World: Vista SP1 beta release imminent
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Rumors have been floating around all week that Microsoft would release a beta of SP1 this week. It’s still not clear if it will be released to the general public or just to a few select testers but “sources” close to Microsoft say that the release could happen any time now.
Microsoft has only mentioned a few new features and fixes that will be present in SP1 beta but the changes are mostly going to be under the hood with a couple performance tweaks as well. Vista SP1 is to fix certain features and includes mostly security updates.
PC World conducted an email interview with a “source” that was close to Microsoft said insiders told him that if SP1 beta was not out yet that it would be very soon so if it doesn’t crop up today (07/19/2007) then it will show up very soon because according to them the release of the service pack is “imminent.”
The final version of Vista SP1 is still expected to be released by November of this year. Many are still waiting for Vista SP1 before deploying it, this includes mostly business and enterprise customers.
Mike Sievert, corporate vice president of the Windows business group at Microsoft, said in an interview “Most companies are still in the evaluation phase, service pack or no service pack, they’re still looking at what they will deploy.”
If Vista SP1 beta does become available at some point today, this post will be updated appropriately.
