Microsoft will launch Longhorn Server next year

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Microsoft will launch Longhorn Server next year Microsoft can’t seem to do anything on time and Longhorn Sever, now called Windows Server 2008 will not be officially launched until next year. It was previously believed that it would officially launch by the end of this year.

Also to launch with Windows Server 2008 are upgrades to Visual Studio and upgrades to SQL Server. According to Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer, these products are the top three enterprise products in the company’s portfolio and will launch a “feeding frenzy” of purchases as businesses look to upgrade.

Then again, it said the same thing about Vista for consumers and it didn’t really happen that way. Only time will tell if his statement comes true.

Microsoft has also said that the products will probably still launch before the end of the year but the “official” launch will not take place until next year.

In other news, Vista SP1 beta will supposedly be launched this week which could be early this week or later this week. If we don’t see it this week then chances are we won’t see it before November. Again, it’s one of those, “time will tell” scenarios.
