Amazon.com happy to sell empty boxes of Vista

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Amazon.com happy to sell empty boxes of Vista If you’re looking to buy that retail boxed copy of Windows Vista, you may want to avoid e-tailer giant, Amazon.com as you may end up with an empty box and no Vista DVD inside.

However, this appears to be more of a typo than anything else but if you’re shopping online it never hurts to be aware of the item description which in this case, as per the description on Amazon.com, reads:

“Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium FULL VERSION [DVD], Platform: Vista, No Operating system”

The only place you should see the words “no operating system” is with a barebones computer. It’s possible this listing wasn’t compiled by a human but by a rather (stupid) algorithm and made the mistake of assuming this was some kind of electronic device that didn’t include an operating system. But that’s a total stab in the dark on my part.

It’s probably not actually an empty box of Vista but is still amusing because one would assume that if you buy an operating system, the DVD should be in the box and I don’t know anyone who would pay $215 just for the retail packaging and no operating system.

      Jonathon,

Just thought you might want to know ….

The “No Operating System” refers to the fact that this is a Full Version of Windows Vista (not an upgrade) for PCs without an installed OS.

Since Amazon uses “Platform” to describe the OS enviroment you need to have to be able to utilize the software we are listing; this description would be true for operating systems, but it does look a bit strange.

Erick, thanks for the clarification but at least we can both admit it looks a bit strange. Perhaps there is a way you might consider rewording that.

It’s not really confusing… I thought it was funny and I’ve always had a good shopping experience with Amazon… just poking a little fun… I didn’t mean any harm.
