Microsoft to patch Vista flaws this week

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Systems builders and VARs ripping, replacing Vista for Windows XP As if this should come as any kind of surprise, Microsoft will be releasing patches for Vista, XP Professional and Office products this Tuesday.

Three of the updates fix potential remote code execution flaws which have been designated as a “critical” threat by Microsoft.

The other updates have been rated “important” and are for publisher and Windows XP. The last update, for Vista, corrects a potential information disclosure flaw. A few other non-security related issues are due to be fixed as well.

I don’t find it at all surprising that Windows XP still needs to receive critical updates, even with all the updates installed, Windows XP probably has more holes than Swiss cheese.

It would be almost impossible for Microsoft to fix every single flaw in every one of its products. That’s why no one should use older and now unsupported operating systems from the Windows 9x or ME series. If your computer is that told, it might be time to consider a new one, with the condition that it’s your only computer and you don’t have a newer one to use.
