Windows Vista on Lenovo PCs to support 2008 Olympics
By Jonathan Schlaffer
The 2008 Olympics are to be held in the capital city of China and Microsoft has partnered with Lenovo to provide some of the 15,000 computers to be used at the 2008 Olympics. Products from other companies will be used but Microsoft has set up a test lab with Lenovo.
All the computers will be running Windows Vista as well as specialized software Microsoft is developing to process information from the games. In order to cope with any technical difficulties; 1,500 Microsoft support technicians will be on site. Is that really enough to deal with all those blue screens?
Microsoft’s subsidiary in China will also be providing further support for the operating systems, databases, Office, administration and project management and support for the IT infrastructure.
Windows Vista, Lenovo laptops and Intel processors will not be the only products used at the 2008 Olympics but those will be a majority. If you’re Microsoft, Lenovo (formerly IBM) and Intel, there is one thing in this world to do if nothing else and that is go crazy on supporting and advertising at the Olympics.
Microsoft is confident it has everything under control. I’m not convinced, they’d better have at least three computers on any one single event in case one or two decide to crash, better make it seven or eight computers just to be safe.
