Microsoft: Cash rewards to promote Vista
Microsoft is obviously trying to put Vista in a good light, after some negative press about it, the company could certainly use it. Isn’t Microsoft aware of the saying “there is no such thing as bad press,†maybe someone should inform their PR department. What else would a company with deep pockets do but pay some top bloggers to promote Vista.
The problem isn’t that Microsoft paid some bloggers, the problem is that these were some respected bloggers and journalists that sold themselves out.
Valleywag reports that Federated Media is the center of the whole thing. Many of Federated Media’s top writers signed on to do the campaign. It’s really despicable. It’s one thing to actually promote a product you believe in, it’s another entirely to promote Vista as being a good product because it simply isn’t. At least they got paid for it.
Microsoft is like the Trojan horse, promising gifts but accepting them will only lead to death and destruction or if not that, a tarnished reputation.
When a News.com editor got hold of this story and began warning people about the dangers of accepting Microsoft gifts, TechCrunch called him an idiot.
We have learned today that it is not a good idea to accept or promote Microsoft, or any other companies’ products if you are offered any type of reward for doing so. Personal bloggers can feel free to do what they want, us professional bloggers (around here we call ourselves Blorgers) should at least try to stay somewhat objective.
