Trend Micro releases security software update for Vista
By Ruben Francia
Trend Micro, a security software provider, announced the released of two security enhancement packages, the Trend Micro Firewall Booster and Trend Micro Pre-Startup Scan for Windows Vista users running Trend Micro Internet Security.
The newly released security enhancement packages take advantage of the built-in Vista’s security feature. The Firewall Booster reportedly leverages the Windows Vista Firewall capabilities. It enhances the protection against web threats and unauthorized access through updated background processes, with no user interaction required.
Pre-Startup Scan offers additional security for detection and removal of hard-to-remove threats like rootkits before Windows starts. The package offers users the option to do Quick Scan that takes only a few minutes and Full Scan that takes up to 30 minutes of waiting for the system to boot. It also has a Restore option to allow any undesired changes to be rolled back.
The above development seems to indicate close working relationship between Trend Micro and Microsoft. In fact, the company also announced that its previous agreement with Microsoft to provide real-time antivirus scanning and cleaning protection to approximately 280 million active Windows Live Hotmail and MSN Hotmail email accounts has been extended.
In terms of providing enhance security for Windows Vista; Trend Micro seems to have an early lead.
