Microsoft might forget about Vista SP1 until 2008

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Microsoft delays Vista SP1, again Microsoft doesn’t want to share much information with anyone these days. After a government ruling that sided with Google, Microsoft was supposed to provide a beta of Vista SP1 before the end of this year.

We may not be seeing a final version of Vista SP1 until 2008 but the beta should be available before the end of this year so nothing has really changed unless Microsoft chooses not to release the beta.

The US government has told Microsoft that the beta has to be released before the end of this year. The consequences that the company will face if it does not comply were not revealed. The reason this happened is Microsoft has to make some concessions to Google in order to make the built-in search configurable to use third party tools, if you so desire, I don’t.

Intel seems to have the idea that Vista SP1 will be released in final version before the end of the year. Not even a government ruling could make that happen, as with all things Microsoft, Vista SP1 probably still needs a lot of work before it is even near a final version.

It comes down to the fact that a lot of businesses are not going to adopt Vista until SP1 rolls around and that’s SP1 in final version. Microsoft says there is no reason to wait but with some of the unpatched problems in Vista, maybe it is smarter to hold off on deploying it.

Microsoft just has too much confidence in its PR and advertising departments which are whipping up a “don’t wait to upgrade campaign.” Wide Vista adoption is not expected until early 2009. Rumors are floating around that Microsoft thinks delaying Vista SP1 will lead to more sales, how does that make sense?

“Microsoft doesn’t want to share much information with anyone these days.”

And that is supposed to be bad? I find it rather interesting how exactly the same strategy can be at the same time considered genious and terrible depending on what company practises it (Microsoft vs. Apple).

“After a government ruling that sided with Google, Microsoft was supposed to provide a beta of Vista SP1 before the end of this year.”

      And it will.

“Microsoft just has too much confidence in its PR and advertising departments which are whipping up a “don’t wait to upgrade campaign.””

And you Microsoft-bashers just have too much confidence on your ignorant articles and comments which are whipping up a “don’t use anything Microsoft, donate all your money to Apple or use Linux”.

“Wide Vista adoption is not expected until early 2009.”

That’s way better than any competing OS.

“Rumors are floating around that Microsoft thinks delaying Vista SP1 will lead to more sales, how does that make sense?”

Well, some people with a brain (and those who actually use it) could say that delaying SP1 would make some people who are planning to buy a PC this year but are waiting for SP1 to buy now a Vista PC instead of waiting and wind up changing their minds and make their worst decision ever by buying a Mac with Mac OS X Lepard instead.
