ZoneAlarm releases its Vista-compatible firewall
Check Point Software Technologies has released its ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7.1 today, four months since Microsoft release Vista. The two-way firewall was designed to run on the latest Windows operating system, Vista.
The delay was primarily caused by the switch to Vista’s application programming interfaces (API).
Previous versions of ZoneAlarm’s product have relied on Microsoft’s Transport Device Interface (TDI) API while the new release ZoneAlarm 7.1 uses Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) API.
Noting for the delay, General Manager of Check Point’s Consumer Security Line, Laura Yecies told ARNnet that “This is a bit later than we would have liked. We underestimated the schedule impact of WFP. But long term, WFP will give us more support and more stability on Vista. It was a lot of extra work, but we’ll have to do fewer hacks in the future.”
ZoneAlarm 7.1 comes with both the paid version and the free version of the software. The paid versions also come with a free 15-day trial. The software is available for download from the Check Point site.
