Software for securely deleting files in Vista O&O software, makers of disk utilities and well known for their UnErase and Defragging utilities have added another piece of the puzzle to their repertoire. It has released Safe Erase 3 for securely deleting files on Vista.

As you may know, when you delete a file, it gets place in the Recycle Bin but even when it’s removed from the Recycle Bin, the file remains in tact until it is written over with new data. Safe Erase 3 can delete files, directories or even whole partitions without leaving any traces of data behind.

When Safe Erase 3 is installed, it is also installed into Windows Explorer so the context menu will always be at your finger tips, ready to destroy your files at the click of a mouse.

O&O Safe Erase 3 has the following features:

-Secure deletion of files, directories, recycle bin and partitions

-New O&O-SafeErase Assistant offers step-by-step guidance

-O&O TotalErase for secure deletion of an entire system

-Secure deletion of free disk space including Cluster-Tips

-Five methods for secure data deletion

-Detailed deletion protocol forms a record of deleted data

-Supports numerous current Windows operating systems, including Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit

The full version of Safe Erase 3 is available now for $30 or grab the upgrade version for $20.  On a related note, Mac OSX already has this feature built-in called Secure Erase Trash; it’s not as full featured as Safe Erase 3 but will get the job done in a pinch.
