Safari on Vista comes complete with bugs and security holes

Safari on Vista comes complete with bugs and security holes Now that we have yet another choice for the browser wars on Windows based machines, it’s time to analyze that choice. Of course, I’m talking about Apple’s brand new browser (for Windows XP and Vista users), Safari 3 Beta. I tried it out; don’t expect too much out of it but one thing you will get is a gaping security hole which is not good browsing.

Don’t get me wrong, the fact that Apple would release yet another of their core applications for Windows is almost incomprehensible and revolutionary but we could do without the bugs.

I expect any beta to have a bug, but I think Apple could have done better on the security side. I do not expect Apple to put out a product on Windows that is equal to the Mac version, it should just be better than it is.

iTunes 7 on Windows is horrible, it crashes all the time and sometimes the UI (User Interface) disappears completely. Safari on Windows works but I don’t know if I can get passed this security hole.

The problem with Safari on Windows is that there is a remote command execution vulnerability caused by Safari’s failure to validate user supplied strings before passing them on to external URL protocols. That’s a direct quote but it translates like this, all a user needs to do is visit a maliciously crafted website that can take advantage of the security hole, bingo, the computer is now compromised.

At this time I cannot recommend Safari for use on Windows Vista or XP and even more so, I don’t like using it on a Mac, I find it slower than Navigator (which can make use of Firefox extensions) and is just as fast, if not faster with the right tweaks.

It does not appear that anything close to this vulnerability exists on a Mac, that doesn’t mean I like it, I’m just saying that Macs don’t have this problem.
