Run Ubuntu in Vista from the web
There are all sorts of ways of running an operating system within an operating system. The most common is known as a virtual system by which the host computer emulates another operating system within its own. It’s how Parallels works, which runs Windows XP or Vista within Mac OSX. The same can be done with Ubuntu and Windows but it’s not something I would tinker with, there is an easier way.
There is Kubuntu with the KDE environment, Edubuntu for education, Ubuntu Studio (for artists) and now there is Wubuntu. Wububtu stands for Web Ubuntu which will allow you to run Ubuntu within your browser from Vista or operating system of your choice.
I find the whole thing fairly pointless as it is slow so getting any real work done in it is not a possibility. You’re better off just using your native OS. It’s fun to play around with but is lacking when it comes to being practical.
There are also some other web based “desktops” like EyeOS and others. None of them are very practical at all. They all remind me of what Microsoft is starting in developing nations, selling a small web appliance but your operating system and files are hosted elsewhere which requires a nominal monthly fee.
Subscription based operating systems? That’s a stupid idea, it will always be a stupid idea and I don?t want any part of it. Reminds me of subscription music, also something I don’t subscribe to (pun intended).
Web based operating systems or desktops are impractical, mostly pointless but fun to play with. You also have the option of downloading and installing Ubuntu and we’ve been there before, the short of it is, I don’t recommend Ubuntu, not one bit. Try Mandriva or buy a Mac instead.
