Microsoft fixes Windows Mobile and Vista synch problemDays of difficulty finally seem to be over for users of Windows Mobile devices trying to synch with PCs running Windows Vista. Microsoft has launched Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 and claims the newly released software supports better file synching between Windows Mobile devices and computers running Windows Vista.

The Mobile Device Center was intended to replace ActiveSync, the software that let’s PC users synch files such as calendar items and transfer content like music between PCs and Windows Mobile devices. However, users of the early versions of Mobile Device Center have reported that the software failed to synch files and that they lost some of their recent updates.

“In the past, some users reported installation and compatibility issues with Windows Mobile Device Center [WMDC],” said John Starkweather, group product manager in Microsoft’s mobile communications group, in an e-mail statement to IDG News Service. “We have released an update to WMDC intended to improve the overall user experience.”

Microsoft claimed that Mobile Device Center 6.1 fixes some problems that users encountered while synching their devices with machines running Vista.

In addition, the new version features automatic device authentication, HTML-formatted e-mail support and simultaneous data connection when the device is connected to the PC.

Microsoft also disclosed plans about an upcoming upgrade that will make Windows Mobile compatible with Office 2007. Starting in the third quarter, the company is looking to pre-install Office Mobile 2007 on mobile phones.
