Windows mobile device center updated to support Vista
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Users of Windows mobile devices have been complaining that some have not been working correctly under Vista. The last version of Windows Mobile Device Center, version 6, had problems synching and updating files to Windows Mobile devices when used with Vista.
Problems ranged from the devices not updating at all to devices losing data to the entire thing becoming corrupt and completely unusable.
Computer World Australia received an email statement from John Starkweather, group product manager in Microsoft’s mobile communications group.
"In the past, some users reported installation and compatibility issues with Windows Mobile Device Center [WMDC], We have released an update to WMDC intended to improve the overall user experience."
Microsoft believes it has finally addressed the problem(s) with the release of Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. This is not a new release, it is simply a patch update to address the problems under Vista.
Only time will tell if the update really addresses all of the problems and completely fixes all the ills that have plagued users of Windows Mobile devices. Sadly, I cannot test this for myself as I do not have a Windows Mobile device, by choice, I don’t like them.
