Vista takes off with Continental airlines deploying 10,000 copies
It’s true, Vista has not been accepted by many corporations or businesses but with Information Week reporting that Continental airlines is preparing to deploy "up to" 10,000 copies of Vista, things may be turning in favor of Microsoft and its newest operating system.
Vista still has problems, driver support is better but is far from great, people are complaining about the high hardware requirements, especially a problem for businesses who don’t like purchasing even mid/high-end machines and most average computers aren’t up to the task of running Vista.
Continental seems to think that Vista will make their employees more productive and happy. Okay, I’m making up the happy part but the improved search feature of Vista is bound to improve productivity, isn’t it?
The search features in Vista still don’t hold a candle to the Spotlight search in Mac OSX (which indexes items almost instantly) but it is improved over XP, no one would deny that.
Microsoft still needs to woo nearly a third of businesses that say Vista will never have a place in the company, ever.Â

Why not just download google desktop?
I find its search capabilities almost as good as spotlight. Best of all it is free.

Yes, I have tried Google Desktop but I prefer tools integrated into the OS if at all possible. All I can say for Vista is that its search tools simply “work”.
Spotlight on the other hand can find new files instantly regradless of location and faster, sleeker and far far more effective.
Google Desktop for those who may not be aware is now available for both PCs and Mac. Use whatever you prefer but I don’t need all the desktop features, all I ask of desktop search is that it indexes and finds files on my hard drive, nothing more, nothing less.
OSX Widgets can satisfy any other needs I may have.

“Vista has not been accepted by many corporations or businesses”
Then one can only conclude it has been tremendously well accepted by the consumers, given it sold already more than 40 millions copies, turning itself into the fastest selling OS ever.
“Microsoft still needs to woo nearly a third of businesses that say Vista will never have a place in the company, ever.”
No they don’t: they just need to end support for XP and Vista will have a place in their companies, whether they want it or not.
“Why not just download google desktop?”
Because quick search is far from being the only thing Vista offers and, unlike Instant Search (at least until now), Google Desktop has several security vulnerabilities and offers more than people who just want quick search want (widgets, sidebar, etc.).
