Microsoft faces Vista trademark challenge

Microsoft faces another legal challenge on its Windows Vista. It’s no longer about its Vista logo label system but the Vista trademark itself. A French television executive claims that Microsoft has breached his right to the trademark “Vistaâ€, which the software company uses for its latest operating system.
Philippe Gildas, an ex cable TV personality, is taking legal action against Microsoft in both France and the United States over the use of the “Vista” trademark.
Gildas told Agence France-Presse that he registered the “Tele Vista†trademark for international use in 2003, while Microsoft filed the “Vistaâ€Â trademark in July 2005.
Gildas accuses Microsoft of violating his intellectual property rights, explaining that “Tele Vista†was the name for his upcoming satellite and cable television channel, which is due to be launched in France soon. Microsoft launched its “Vista†operating system late last year.
Gildas didn’t provide any further details about his legal action, though he did hint that he didn’t expect a quick resolution.
