Microsoft claims 40 million copies of Vista sold

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Microsoft sells 40 million copies of Vista Credit it to what you will; Microsoft is now claiming that Vista, its newest operating system has sold over 40 million copies. Let’s take a step back here, this wouldn’t be the first time Microsoft has inflated figures to look good on paper as the claim of 20 million copies sold did not occur too long ago.

So now we’re at 40 million copies and Microsoft says it sold those 40 million copies in 100 days says a report at CNN Money. Lay off whatever it is you are smoking guys and perhaps that can explain some of the bugs that still made it into Vista.

At any rate over 78 percent of the copies sold account for Home Premium or higher. No kidding. I mean, why would anyone actually want a watered down version of Vista that is Home Basic, no Aero Glass, no DVD authoring and for all I know it doesn’t even support Blu-Ray, HD-DVD or HDCP technologies. I haven’t researched Home Basic enough because, well, lacking Aero Glass and DVD authoring is enough for just about everyone to ignore it.

First of all, I don’t think they have really sold 40 million copies much less in 100 days. I find the figure of 20 million hard enough to deal with. These numbers look good on paper but Microsoft isn’t saying how many of these alleged “sold” copies are in consumer’s hands and how many have actually been installed.

My guess is Microsoft is still counting all those Vista express upgrade discs where some still haven’t made it to the rightful owner.

It’s all cloak and dagger, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, lies, it’s all lies covered up in a neat little shroud but all you have to do is peek under it to see the truth, I see the truth Microsoft, I see it and I want nay demand an explanation.

This is the latest of the many number of occasions Micorsoft reported that Vista sales are strong, higher than expected, and that Vista is doing much better than XP did when it was launched. But like I said, MS never talks about is how Vista is affecting the Apple Mac OS market. The fact remains, Microsoft’s Vista fails to stop Apple Mac OS popularity.

I agree with Jonathan’s article. A further question arises: If one can buy new computers only with Vista installed, shouldn’t the sales figures be sensational? Darn right they should.
      Does that make it popular?
I’ve read many forum entries throughout the web with an awful lot of people wanting to know how to put XP on their shiny new computers and get rid of Vista. Microsoft needs to consider this in their brag, too.

[…] Vista hasn’t exactly gotten off to a great start, despite certain sales claims by Microsoft. Now that Dell is offering Linux on some of their computers, Vista may even be a harder sell. I still don’t recommend installing Linux (especially Ubuntu) yourself but I see nothing wrong when it’s been installed by an OEM. A monkey could install Vista. […]
